Rising 6th Graders to Independence Middle School

As fifth grade comes to an end, sixth grade is just around the corner. For those students that are planning to attend Independence Middle School next year please check out this exciting informational video IMS has put together for the 2017-2018 sixth grade class.

2017-18 Pre-K Eligibility Application Session

The VBCPS Pre-K program is provided at no cost to at-risk preschoolers who, for the 2017-2018 school year, will be four years old on or before Sept. 30, 2017. Students are selected to participate in the program based on the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) eligibility criteria and identified risk factors. The Pre-K program is full-day and follows the VBCPS schedule. The session will be held at Newtown Elementary School on Wednesday, May 24th, from 4:00-5:30pm. 2017 STARTALK Elementary Chinese and Russian Summer Academies

The 2017 STARTALK Elementary Chinese and Russian Summer Academies are now open to all fourth grade students.This is a free four-week immersive experience for students, which runs from June 26 to July 20, at Providence Elementary School. A total of 75 students will be chosen by lottery representing each of the three sections of the city. Busing will be available to all interested students. Applications are available for download at www.virginiabeachstartalk.org and are due by May 26th to Jennifer Carson in the Department of Teaching and Learning.

5th Grade tDap Boosters Needed For Middle School Registration

All 5th grade students who have not had a Tdap vaccine within the last five years will need a Tdap booster shot before entering 6th grade.

Fifth grade students can now begin receiving the shots from the health department or their family physicans.

Please return updated shot records to SPES clinic prior to the end of this year to avoid any delays in obtaining your child's middle school schedules.

Please contact Mrs. Stovall, our school nurse, if you have any questions regarding your child's immunization records at 648-3767.
